Discord is coming to PlayStation next year

by drbyos

Sony tells Monday night that they buy into the game chat service Discord. With that, Sony gets a small stake in the company, and becomes a partner in the company.

As part of the partnership, work is now underway to implement Discord on the PlayStation consoles, so that players can use the service to talk to players, groups and friends.

“Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on consoles and mobile phones from the beginning of 2022,” says PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan.

More information about the implementation will come in the coming months.

Microsoft reportedly sniffed at Discord

The news of the PlayStation collaboration comes just a few weeks after several reports claimed that Discord was in talks with Microsoft. The computer giant is said to have wanted to buy rubles and bits, while Discord itself was more interested in going public.

Discord is a chat service that offers communication in both text and video, and is especially focused on the game segment. You can communicate directly, or sign up for different servers, which serve as a gathering point for different online communities. The service is available on several platforms, and you can communicate across them.
