Death of artist Karim Ouellet

His inanimate body was discovered shortly before 10 p.m. inside the L’Unisson studio, rue Saint-Anselme, in the Saint-Roch district, according to our sources.

The Quebec City Police Department dismisses the criminal thesis to explain the death of Karim Ouellet. He had probably been dead for several hours when his body was discovered, according to our information. No resuscitation maneuver would therefore have been undertaken.

The coroner’s office will try to shed light on this case.

He was noticed on a larger scale during the Festival international de la chanson de Granby in 2009.

His second album won the prestigious Francophone Album of the Year award at the Junos in 2014. Fox sold more than 33,000 copies.

He won the Félix-Leclerc prize for his song love, who made him known to the general public in Quebec.

In 2013, Karim Ouellet was appointed four times to ADISQ, then became Révélation Radio-Canada in 2012-2013.

In February 2018, for the 27th Black History Month, the singer was chosen as French-speaking spokesperson for this national event.

He also opens for concerts by the famous Stromae and often participates in large-scale celebrations, such as Canada Day.

Shortly before his death, he was working on his fourth album, according to his biography on Spotify. He was also a judge for the Anjou Star singing competition.


The political class is also in shock.

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, has glowing remarks about Karim Ouellet.

Rain of praise from Quebec elected officials

The Premier of Quebec, François Legault, also paid tribute to him on his Twitter account.

My condolences to the family and loved ones of Karim Ouellet, a young artist who brought a new style to Quebec music, wrote the politician.

The mayor of Quebec, Bruno Marchand, also expressed his grief.
