Cyberpunk 2077 is late. The science fiction adventure will not come out on its April release date. CD developer Projekt Red revealed today that it’s coming on September 17th. This gives the studio more time to perfect the game (how to fix multiple bugs and work on other systems) before it is launched on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
Here is how the developer explained the delay in a Twitter statement.
“We are currently in a phase where the game is complete and playable, but there is still work to be done. The night city is huge – full of stories, content and places to visit, but due to the vastness and complexity of all this, we need more time to finish the test, the correction and the polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our brave result for this generation and the postponement of the launch will offer us the precious months we need to make the game perfect . “
“Expect more regular progress updates as we get closer to the new release date.”
This pushes Cyberpunk 2077 out of a busy first half of the year. Now he no longer breathes the neck of Final Fantasy VII Remake. But at the same time, it is now included in the build-up for next generation console versions: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will arrive on vacation.
A September release date is the latest in the game, before being blown away by the hype for new hardware.
While PlayStation 5 and Xbox have backward compatibility, CD Projekt Red is probably concerned about optics. The studio created the PC game and the current hardware. And people may not want to buy a game for old systems if they have just spent $ 500 more on a shiny new console.
