Covid-19: Dakar received 124,800 doses of AstraZeneca, a donation from Belgium (Press release)

Dakar, Sept 10 (APS) – Senegal received 124,800 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, a donation from the Kingdom of Belgium, as part of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, on Friday, APS has learned.

“ Senegal received this September 10, 2021, a batch of 124,800 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine from AstraZeneca, a donation from the Kingdom of Belgium as part of the COVAX initiative, ” the pharmaceutical company said in a press release.

Quoted in the document, the Minister of Health and Social Action, Abdoulaye Diouf Sarr, maintained that “ the vaccine, as it stands, seems to be the extremely important element of success in the fight against Covid -19 ”, calling on the Senegalese to go and get massively vaccinated.

“ I am delighted to see the arrival today in Senegal of 124,800 additional doses of the Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccine, a donation from the Kingdom of Belgium which will make it possible to accelerate the vaccination program, ” said for his part the National President for Africa at AstraZeneca, Barbara Nel.

According to her, the pharmaceutical company’s commitment to Africa remains strong and it will continue its collaborative efforts with their Covax partners and countries around the world to help meet the urgent need for vaccine doses on the continent.

The statement highlights that AstraZeneca was the first global pharmaceutical company to join Covax in June 2020 and the third largest supplier of Covid-19 vaccine doses in the world.

To date, more than 122 million doses of the company’s vaccine have been delivered to more than 129 countries through Covax, helping prevent hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations and saving tens of thousands of lives since its first international launches in early 2021, ” according to the source.
