CONTINUUM, an underground journey through time

As part of the 150th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, the Ottawa 2017 Bureau mandated Moment Factory to create an engaging underground experience at the Ottawa Light Rail Transit (LRT) system at Lyon Station. This multimedia installation would help position the city as a leader in innovation and creativity and attract visitors to the forthcoming LRT initiative. Our challenge was to create a collective experience in a very unusual metro station site that is still under construction. To do this, our team had to imagine the content of the space, the stage design and the technical design for the space, which did not originally exist and was constantly evolving until its launch. Continuum brought together a multidisciplinary team to work with site architects and engineers to create a fusion of light, video projection, original music and interactivity. Visitors begin their journey in an abandoned cinema, where they scan their body’s “personal frequency” in 3D – later used to create visuals. They then descend into a futuristic world that stimulates the imagination and engages the senses.
