China’s First HPV Vaccine Earns WHO Prequalification

The HPV vaccine can prevent cervical cancer.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, XIAMEN — China’s first self-developed HPV vaccine, Cecolin, received prequalification from the World Health Organization (WHO). The move indicates that WHO has stamped approval on safety and efficacy for the vaccine.

Now, United Nations procurement agencies can make it a resource, according to Xiamen University. The HPV vaccine is a vaccine used to prevent infection human papillomavirus (HPV), the cause of cervical cancer.

Cecolin was developed by Xiamen University and Xiamen Innovax Biotech. The discovery of the vaccine makes China the third country in the world that has the supply cervical cancer vaccine independent after the United States and Britain.
