“My songs are very profound and mean a lot to me” – this young woman from Menzing reaches 15,000 people a month with her music
Carina Meyer was discovered by accident on Instagram. Since then she has released over ten of her own songs under her stage name Calea.
“I’m living my dream,” says Carina Meyer aka Calea. Two years ago she was discovered by chance by a producer on Instagram and since then she has been trying to make her way into music with her own songs. “I just posted a short video of myself covering a song. The founder of Roda Studios, Robin Tune, heard that by accident and saw potential in me. »
Now the 19-year-old has already released ten of her own songs and a music video. “I also created an event series called ‘Acela Events’. The goal is to give local artists an opportunity to perform on stage,” explains Meyer. The next event will take place on April 7th in the Chicago Bar & Lounge in Zug. Calea will also perform live there with a new song.
She taught herself to play the guitar
“I’ve always been fascinated by writing my own songs,” says Meyer. In the meantime, she has set herself the goal of being able to live off her music. She’s already on the right track for that. “I achieved my first 100,000 streams on Spotify with my most popular single ‘Partial Nights’,” reports the singer proudly.
On Spotify, she reaches around 15,000 monthly listeners with her songs released every two months. She is also studying music production at the SAE Institute in Zurich.
«I really like studying in exchange with other young musicians. In addition, we only have classes two days a week, which leaves us a lot of time for our own projects.» Meyer developed a flair for music early on. She says: “I’ve been playing the piano for many years and taught myself to play the guitar.”
She wants to reach and inspire as many people as possible with her songs. “My songs are very profound and mean a lot to me,” says Meyer. “I want to reach people who can understand my feelings through my art and feel similar things.”
Sometimes the music industry can be very tough because of that. “If you invest a lot of time and passion in a song, you’re all the more disappointed when it’s not well received.” It is always important for her to remain authentic. “Each self-written song has a strong connection to me and tells a part of my story.”
«I like the whole process of producing music. You can always celebrate small successes in all phases,” says Meyer. She is still searching for her own style of music. “Although I prefer to listen to ‘The Weeknd’ and hip-hop myself, I’ve mostly written pop songs.”
Like father like daughter
Her songs are all in English because that’s the language she likes best. «For me, English is also a bit of a language of escape. I think I’m less vulnerable when I express myself in a foreign language,” Meyer suspects.
The family of the 19-year-olds stand behind their ambitions in the music industry. «My father is the greatest support for me. He used to be in a band and is therefore all the happier about my musical successes.”
In addition, her team from the music studio is also a great help. “My producer, Danny Carlson, is like a mentor to me,” says the singer. “Of course I hope that after my studies I’ll be able to produce my music independently.”
