Boateng not to jail, but mega fine of 1.8 million euros

Jerome Boateng has to pay damages of 1.8 million euros for domestic violence. The right-back in Munich decided that on Thursday.

Boateng, 33, is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend. She is also the mother of his twin daughters. Boateng allegedly inflicted physical injury on his ex in an argument, although this was denied in court.

Boateng, who is now under contract with Peter Bosz’s Olympique Lyon, even risked a prison sentence of up to five years. But in the end, the court decided that he must put an amount of 1.8 million euros on the table.

The case only came up now because in December 2020 a witness tested positive for the corona virus. The case was then adjourned. Boateng is involved in a legal battle with his ex over custody of their daughters.
