Barcelona transfers: Koeman asks Laporta for the arrival of a free agent, David Luiz, for the 2021-22 season | FOOTBALL-INTERNATIONAL

The transfer market summer ended a few days ago, but apparently not for the FC Barcelona. Spanish press insists that, despite not going through its best economic moment, the Barcelona team continues to think about the incorporation of new players. According to the Spanish newspaper ‘Don Balon’, at the request of DT Ronald Koeman, President Joan Laporta could close the arrival of the Brazilian David Luiz, who is as a free agent after ending his contract with English Arsenal.

The aforementioned media reports that the coach of the Barcelona has communicated to the club’s top brass the need to sign one more center-back to correct defensive problems that the team has shown in the first dates of La Liga Santander.

“David Luiz would have been an express request from Koeman to try to solve the defensive problems evidenced by the Blaugrana defense in recent games and, if nothing goes wrong, the arrival of the Brazilian could become official in the coming days”, publishes the cited source.

Although the transfer market has closed in Spain at the beginning of the week, the regulations do allow the incorporation of free players such as David Luiz. Thus, the Brazilian defender would not cost Barcelona a single euro and would have a salary according to the financial reality of the club.

It is not the first time that David Luiz has played at Barcelona. Before his time at Arsenal, Chelsea and PSG, the South American central defender was in the sights of the Catalans, but the signing could not materialize. With 34 years over, the paulista could get revenge.

It should be remembered that for the 2021-22 season, Barcelona was reinforced with Memphis Depay, Eric García, Sergio Agüero, Luuk de Jong and Emerson Royal (he ended up at Tottenham).

In the first three dates of LaLiga Santander, Barcelona added seven points in the standings after a draw (Athletic Club) and two victories (Real Sociedad and Getafe).
