West Ham slammed Manchester United 1-0 in a match of the 35th round of the Premier League.
The main culprit for the loss of the “red devils” was the guard of the team David de Gea, who today became the goalkeeper with the most matches for the team. The Spaniard made a huge mistake and gave the Hammers the winning goal.
The defeat for Manchester is the second of the week. On Thursday, the “Red Devils” fell by the same score to Brighton.
With the loss, United may not finish in the top four, despite just a few weeks ago the team was considered a sure thing for next year’s Champions League.
The club from Manchester remains in 4th place in the English championship. However, Erik ten Hag’s team is only one point ahead of Liverpool, who have a game in hand. If United do not change something in their game in the remaining 4 rounds until the end of the season, however, the Merseysiders will most likely overtake their biggest rival in England.
West Ham moved away from the relegation zone. The London team collected 37 points and now has 7 more than 18th in the standings.
In the opening minutes, United pressed. However, “Red Devils” never found the way to the goal.
Bruno Fernandes’ shot went wide of the post in the 7th minute.
In the 10th minute, Antoni received on the edge of the penalty area and shot. Fabianski did not react, but luckily for him the ball went out.
Eriksen also tries a shot from a long distance, but the situation was the same – a shot outside the boundaries.
In the 17th minute, Rashford overcame Kerrer and shot onto the grass. The ball hit the left post and went out.
Somewhat surprisingly, despite the game so far, West Ham opened.
Benrama was assertive and took away from Luke Shaw in midfield. The player of the London club advanced and almost reached the edge of the penalty area. Benrama fired a fake shot that had almost no power. But David de Gea made a big mistake by not being able to clear the ball and it ended up in his net.
For the second time, the crossbar saved West Ham. Antony cheated a London defender and shot from the edge of the penalty area, but his shot found the bottom right side post.
In the 45th minute, De Gea stopped a certain goal. Benrama broke away in the penalty area and fired from a tight angle, only this time the Spanish keeper reacted appropriately and saved.
In added time, West Ham claimed a penalty. The ball apparently hit Victor Lindelof in the arm, but the referees were silent.
The second half started with another monstrous mistake by De Gea. The United goalkeeper passed to an opponent around the edge of the penalty area after taking a throw-in. Fortunately for the Spanish guard, the hosts did not punish his mistake.
Mikael Antonio scored United’s second goal, but referee Peter Banks disallowed the goal for a foul on the striker against the Manchester keeper.
Weghorst shot hard in the 55th minute, but his shot went straight into Fabianski’s reach.
Pacetta tried a bomb shot in the 66th minute. His cannon shot was intercepted by Mikel Antonio with his head, but the ball went wide.
In the 73rd minute, another West Ham goal was disallowed, once due to an offside. Soucek latched onto a cross in the box but it turned out to be behind United’s defenders and the referees correctly adjudged offside.
In the 77th minute, Rashford shot diagonally, but Fabianski saved.
In stoppage time, substitute Martial made a big miss. The French international found himself in a goal position, but the guard of the London team saved and kicked in a corner.
After that, Martial intercepted the ball at the first post, but from a few meters out he managed to put it into the empty goal after being dropped by Paquette.
