ACAPS organizes, in partnership with the CMA, a regional forum on climate risks

On September 27-28, 2022 in Muscat, Oman, the Insurance and Social Reserves Supervisory Authority (ACAPS) and the Capital Market Authority of the Sultanate of Oman (CMA) organized a regional forum in the Middle East and in North Africa on climate monitoring, risks and protection gaps.
This forum saw the participation of supervisors and supervisors of the insurance sector in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as representatives of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors, the Access Initiative to Insurance and the Sustainable Insurance Forum, to examine the challenges posed by climate risks and protection disparities, as well as to review the best solutions to address them.
This meeting, which reflects the growing importance attached by the Middle East and North Africa to dealing with the effects of climate change, aims to raise awareness of the need to activate precautionary and protectionist programs and policies, and to build the capacity of the insurance sector in the field of the fight against climate risks.
The convening of this meeting is an opportunity to take stock of the roadmap developed by the International Association of Insurance Supervisors on climate risks, as well as to explore the views of supervisors on the challenges facing insurance markets in the region.
It should also be noted that this forum will allow the exchange of experiences and good practices in this field, and exposure to the most important international standards adopted and aimed at dealing with the effects of climate change.
On the other hand, this meeting is part of the partnership between the Moroccan Insurance and Social Reserve Supervisory Authority and the Omani Capital Market Authority, after the conclusion of a memorandum of understanding in first third of this year for the purpose of strengthening bilateral relations cooperation and information exchange in the field of insurance to serve mutual interests. for both countries.
