A year without Leo Messi at Barcelona

On August 5, 2021, the FC Barcelona announced that Leo Messi will no longer play for the club.

Exactly one year has passed since then and a lot has happened. Here’s a quick recap in pictures.

The results are not particularly pleasing at first. Barca are eliminated from the Champions League after the bitter defeat by Bayern Munich. Clement Lenglet is filmed smiling after the game.

Months later, Barcelona are eliminated after an away defeat against Athletic Bilbao out of the Copa del Rey.

With a 4-1 win against Atletico Madrid Xavi takes the first big step forward – finally it works!

The Catalans feel good again. The Blaugrana beat leaders Real Madrid 4-0 and showed an impressive performance.

However, the problems return. The Camp Nou is packed with German fans because our team after the game against Eintracht Frankfurt eliminated from the Europa League.

Barca end the league season with a disappointing home defeat against Villarreal. Still, it’s enough for second place.

The upheaval continues. Robert Lewandowski is Barca’s main signing, presented exactly one year after the announcement of Messi’s departure at the Camp Nou.
