Let’s take things in order with the 10 minutes (or almost) of the campaign unveiled by Activision-Blizzard. We follow an unknown squad there, the Alpha team, which infiltrates the Verdansk gulag. A small card at the bottom left of the screen tells us that we are observing operation 627 in the Kosovo sea; a nice nod to the original Modern Warfare 2, where “prisoner 627” was Captain Price himself. Here, it’s a safe bet that the scenario will take another direction. Anyway, our brave troop of infantry goes from infiltration to the strong method, swapping silencers for explosives, with a little abseiling for the road. Logo, staining bass, release date: another one trailer CoD of bent. Remember in passing that the main antagonist of the plot will be this old hoodlum Makarov.
The choice of weapons
The novelty will be in the “Open Combat” missions, presented on stage by creative director David Swenson. These quests will take place in more open areas than usual, with a more stripped down setting, which will let us approach the situation as we see fit. “You can stay stealthy with silenced weapons and complete all of your objectives without ever being spotted, or equip armor plates, charge like a ram, and Open Combat missions will let you do that too.“It will even be possible to call our killstreaks multiplayer to support us. A relatively intriguing proposition for the franchise. Unfortunately, it has not been confirmed if the Open Combat mode will be available in co-op.
We will have our answer when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released on November 10 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. See you on October 5 for the next Call of Duty Next which will focus on multiplayer, the future of Warzone and future mobile experiences. Two open betas will then take place (you can find the details on the official blog).
